I'm not sure how much of my hair I cut today, but I am sure that I cut a lot of it. At least 5 inches. I needed to do it though. I had stopped doing what I needed to do in order to take of my hair myself. I have learned, especially over the last year, that what goes into your body will definitely come out. I had been drinking way too much. Going out too much. Not sleeping well. Not eating well at all. I just didn't care. I made no effort to keep myself up the way that I know I should have.
I started my natural hair journey back in 2010. I did the big chop and everything. I remember it was before the whole embracing of natural hair really took off. So, I had friends that looked at me strange and made fun of me for cutting my hair. Even made little snide remarks about needing to get perms etc.. (btw those friends have tried going natural themselves and are very envious of how far I have come in my journey). It really did hurt my feelings, but I kept going because I really wanted to see where this would take me.
Now, I am in PART 2. This is the part where I have to start over because of all the reasons above...including the heat damage because I didn't straighten my hair properly and because I was wearing it in ponytails all the time or neglecting to properly de-tangle. So today, when I sat in the chair to get a cute up-do because it's hot as HELL... I just made the decision to just cut off all the dead ends. And we did. And now, just like the first time, I'm having a moment. So I decided that I will blog about it.
One thing that I will share up front is that damage, just like growth, does not happen over night. I didn't see my hair breaking off at first. I didn't just wake up to my hair being completely damaged the way that it was before I decided to start over. This is something that happened over time. I just looked up and noticed that my bad habits, lifestyle and neglect finally took it's toll on my hair.
So now, I have goals hunni! And I'm going to share them all here. Just to keep track of my progress.
I have seen a lot of Instagram posts with individuals who had been natural but had setbacks and had success with rejuvenating their natural curls. But I could never find anything where they actually showed how they restored their hair to health. So, this is what this blog is about. My progress and the steps I will take to get my hair back to the full bounce that it once was. This time, I know to appreciate my curls.
So, if you are in the same boat as me, please, join me in this new journey to hair restoration. I'll post progress photos and share my routines and progress. I don't know what's going to work and what will won't, but I'm going to keep track of it all right here. I'm no model, so this pictures will be REAL DEAL! No beat faced chile! LOL
Also to note: I'm not, nor have I ever been a product junkie. So, I will share what I use... use it, if it works I'll keep using it. If not, I'll finish using it (because it's money hunni) then I will switch it up. But I'll share it all here. I welcome any and all comments and suggestions. I will say upfront, I do go to a natural hair stylist once a month. I find that she helps me to restore anything that I have messed up (because I'm NO hair expert and I will not pretend to be). If you can find one, great! If you cannot, we're still in this together.
So, I hope this helps somebody out there! We all have setbacks, it's the way that comeback that matters!!
